But surely it is the wishes of the families that should be taken into account?

There was always an argument as to whether it should have been raised at all. However, that debate is a long way behind us. IMO this is an action of which the Government should be righly proud of. They raised it in order to investigate and seek justice for those young men tragically lost.

If the families agree, then please accord with their wishes and let them gain their own type of closure. The opinions of others are irrelevant.

May they rest in peace.

I was recently in contact with the spokesperson for the families in Whithorn and I was told they wanted the boat returned to the deep. So why have they changed their minds, thats if they have. We cant always believe what an MHK says, can we.

In the report it says:

"Now, the vessel's owner Richard Gidney has been given until the end of the month to sign a 'transfer of ownership' document.

If that doesn't happen, the boat will be seized under the Harbours Act."

I would have thought that the owners would now be the insurers.....

I have no more reason to believe you.

This isn't about point scoring. As I stated, if it is the parents / families wishes......

Have they paid out?

If the boat was not in a seaworthy condition and in compliance with all checks and requirements of the policy then they may not have paid out. You know how they like to wriggle out of paying claims if they can

Just proves newsbot doesn't read this forum.

As was said in Tynwald yesterday, it will be scrapped in Ramsey behind screens. Quite right too, it's been on display long enough, the case is closed and to sink it would pose a threat to others. Best result. Ramsey is the nearest yard capable of doing it and they don't run a charity up there.

Total Tosh

What threat to others, The Island wants to promote tourism or not. The island is now a specialist tourist destination, motor sports and the likes, many other areas of the UK and western world have taken the opportunity to create artificial reefs in the own waters in the hope of attracting divers and anglers and at the same time help the marine environment by sinking redundant ships, busses and railway cars which in time attract many fish.

To make the Solway Harvester safe for sinking and for the use of Divers would not be expensive and in fact the work required would be carried out by unpaid volunteers. As for Mr Anderson making the statement that the waters around the Island are not deep enough to sink the ship, once again a load of Tosh by an MHK, the Solway Harvester will only be a maximum of 27.5ft of the sea bed and even behind Douglas head the depth of water at slack tide is over 100 feet. Divers like to dive at depths of 30 mts so the waters here are ideal.
