doubleheman
I would love to see it turned into a small shopping center that would be awesome. I think it's big enough anyway.
sarahc
With all those shops that are doing so well they're desperate to open more.
Albert Tatlock
The cinema idea is growing on me - bring the street to life in the evening for the right reasons. Enough room there for a good foyer and at least two screens.
Declan
I like to see an emporium where lots of different small traders have shops. You could have a food court in one section, a fresh produce market elsewhere, and second hand record and book stalls and antique shops and nick nack stalls and boutiques, and stalls that sell Moochers type junk, TT Tat and everything local entrepreneurs can use to turn a profit. It would be labyrinthine stretching over three floors, where turning any corner would thrill the visitor with new sensations and new delights. The DTI could employ some of the more presentable of the unemployed to dress up and perform illusions, feats of prestidigitation and topical song for visitors, it would be a magical and mystical shopping experience unparalleled in the adjacent isles. The government should use the regeneration money Alan Bell announced for this because it would bring the following benefits - 1. The newly redundant could invest their payouts into a new business. 2. With a new type of entrepreneur in Douglas town centre the whole street will be reinvigorated. 3. Money spent on the Island will stay on the Island. 4. As news of this emporium spreads tourists will flock to the Island to partake in this unique shopping experience. 5. This new retail based tourism will then expand out into the rest of the street and throughout Douglas, and in time stroll along the quay, from the Ye Olde Train Station Bizarre, onto the Ridgeway Street Latin quarter, past the designer boutiques of Victoria Street and on through Strand Street, the Villa Marina colonade and the Broadway theatre district, is a cavalcade of jugglers and fire-eaters and buskers. Course a monorail is more likely.
TerryMcCann
Yes but what do we do 6 months later when all of the shops in this emporium have gone bust because despite people saying how great it is nobody will actually buy anything from there? Just get a Tesco Metro in there and be done with it

Titanic
I like the cinema idea best, it would make one hell of disco/nightclub too - any takers?
Phyllis
Blacks, Cotswold, Tiso etc i.e a proper specialist outdoor clothing and equipment store ! Our fiddly little Peter Storm shop ( Millets) doesnt cut it on an Island promoting sport and outdoor pursuits. Think of all the tents, stoves, sleeping bags, waterproofs they'd sell at TT for a start ! How about subdividng it into small start up units for small businesses. Could have Arts and Crafts and farmers market and maybe small food stalls like they have in the Far East
