Though is it simply the case that if the person is offered alternative employment they won't get redundancy or do other things come into it, such as the distance between one's home and the new area? No. The company has to offer alternative employment, if there is any available. The offer has to suitable alternative employment. If the employee reasonably argues that it's not suitable, for example because he doesn't want to move to Scotland, then he can reject the offer and seek redundancy pay.
