Looks like another cock up with the tv coverage of next years TT, The BBC have just pulled out now and their coverage was the best last year by far

Wrong - BBC Northern Ireland has pulled out, BBC Network has not.

Increased distribution and improved filming set to revolutionise TV coverage

North One Television, one of Europe’s leading production companies, who recently won the tender for the Television production, sales and distribution of the Isle of Man TT Races, is promising to revolutionise the TT Races Television coverage. The contract comes into effect for the 2009 TT races and runs until 2013.

The company recently visited Sportel, the International Sports Convention for Television and New Media in Monaco, where they were presenting the Isle of Man TT Races to potential TV channels. Neil Duncanson, CEO of North One, said that it was very well received:

'We are in advanced talks with UK broadcasters and we will be vastly improving the global distribution - that means stand-alone TT programming with a variety of major broadcasters around the world, which will bring not just money but significant exposure for the event and for the Isle of Man. We have been delighted with the reaction so far and early in the New Year we will be able to announce some of the deals we are currently negotiating.”

North One are also looking to improve the quality of coverage. Duncanson continued:

“2009 will see the event covered in High Definition, there will be 50 percent more course cameras and more behind the scenes coverage of the event and the riders, as well as a variety of innovations, including the use of CGI, high end graphics and special effects cameras that will help to capture the magic and personality of the races. We will be placing on board cameras on ten of the first fifteen riders in each race and we believe they will really lift the understanding and enjoyment of the whole TT spectacle.”

Details of the broadcast arrangements for the 2009 TT Races will be announced in the New Year.

I'm sure that TV coverage and the quality will be at least as good as in previous years, however falling out with the BBC doesn't sound like a good move.

The fact seems to be that the DTL is farming everything TT out to UK companies, including the organisation, when the event is supposed to be a boost to our economy?

Some dubious contracts with no or very little income, whilst alienating local businesses who have supported the event through thick and thin. Not giving them a chance to come up with a proposal in good time etc.

If the DTL have a vision, why don't they ask their long term partners if they can help achieve it without completely alienating them from the event?

and who exactly in Greenlight said that? Or did you just make it up on the spur of the moment?

But anyway. Even if you were right (and I don't believe you are) the fact is that most political jurisdictions, especially small ones, have recognised that in the present economic climate, exporting jobs is nothing short of insanity. Your own dear Government realised this some time ago, and has been urging you to shop local. They just don't do ithemselves because... erm, because... well, because... anyone with a genuine expanation (not one they've just made up) please feel free to add the answer here...

None of the BBC networks will be broadcasting the TT in 2009 and can you blame them after only being offered a contract for one year. Interesting news with North One is that they have just paid off over 200 staff including the man that was to be thier producer at the TT.

Lets not forget if the races are delayed, North One will not be able to broadcast previous years races as a fill in due to copyright, something the DTL cant fix. Next years Northwest 200 is to have its largest ever broadcasting by Geenlight and world wide TV networks and live.

I suppose it's good to have a change now and again to get away from the same old format of editing and script etc, like the BHP rally productions of years ago which had the same stupid edits (car goes around corner in Sulby village and appears in Baldwin or Ballajora), just the cars and the numbers are changed to protect the innocent :D
