Pontius
Has anyone any idea where I can get calcium carbide? It's to demonstrate an antique acetylene mining lamp (in perfect condition and fired up only once or twice, about 40 years ago) which was used in mines with no danger from gas. Many thanks for any help you can give!

Tempus Fugit
brother in law used it in UK for chasing moles out of his field, but having no moles maybe not stocked over here, maybe try the farmers merchants though (other pest uses ?) sounds a bit hazardous these days, my Mum told of how she had a carbide lamp on her pushbike as a kid
molly
Ask somebody from the vintage motorcycle club, they use such stuff in there road lamps. Tony East in kirk Michael should sort you out of at least know who could. His place is the motorcycle museum on left before total garage heading out of the village.
