pongo
And a receiver from Deloitte has been appointed to Wedgwood's Irish arm."Waterford, Wedgwood and Royal Doulton are quintessentially classic brands that represent a high quality product which is steeped in history," said joint administrator Angus Martin. It's a funny set of brands and designs. Some really good stuff and some right old naff (eg the figurines).
Stu Peters
Says something about the current recession - they'd been trading for 250 years! I did a lot of work at Waterford Crystal's visitor centre in 92/93 - major employer in the town and with mega chandeliers in places like the White House and royal palaces everywhere. I suppose they can make them for a couple of dollars in Korea or PRC these days though. The Irish have had a MAJOR boom (Celtic Tiger anyone?) for the last 20 years...now it's in tatters. The Old Git
Says something about the current recession I wonder if the younger generation have less interest in fine china and glass? I'd guess that with ready meals, take outs, eating out, there's less demand these days for expensive tableware. I've never bought any, I'd rather spend my money on other things.
