Rice has been imported into the British Isles since at least the Middle Ages.

 

Perhaps, but not much.

 

How many traditional British recipes can you think of for rice? I can't think of one, unless you consider rice pudding traditional.

 

Rice was very much a luxury item until 1750 or so when trade with India developed.
