How much more bullshit can this government generate?

Airport director, Anne Reynolds, said: "When many UK airports are experiencing double digit reductions in traffic, to be able to return a moderate fall of about 9% during the toughest month is reassuring."

What part of that is reassuring the fact that other airports are expieriencing doble digit reductions are we are merely just short of double digit reductions. Or the fact that we are paying £50m to extend a runway that decreasing numbers of air travellers are actually using?

It would also look to develop its tourist market, drawing holidaymakers away from Europe because of the high value of the Euro against the pound.

Dream on.

I think Ann Reynolds deserves a big bonus. She managed to limit decrease in passenger numbers to 9% when she had forecast a 14% drop. If she was a banker that positively negative achievement would be worth a 6 figure sum.

To keep things in perspective

Airport director, Anne Reynolds, said: "When many UK airports are experiencing double digit reductions in traffic, to be able to return a moderate fall of about 9% during the toughest month is reassuring."

From today's FT:

BAA, which operates seven UK airports, said it handled 9.4m passengers in January, a 6.3 per cent decline from the same month in 2008...

It is interesting to see 9.2% described as a moderate fall and reassuring - maybe in comparison to the fall in value of RBS it is, but nearly 10% fall off in passenger numbers is not good news for the Island - particularly if it leads to further loss of services. Should one be self-congratulatory about this reduction?

This seems to be the standard of spin expected from transport industry chiefs. You wouldn't expect negative and miserable comments from them, would you?

Anyone for harakiri?

What I can't believe is the way the BBC reported the story ...'less than expected'. Talk about spin! At least IOM Newspapers got it right with 'plummet'. I thought the Beeb would have reported the story in a more professional manner. Unless it was written by some local numpty
