slinkydevil
We've had a few recent discussions about reporting and giving out personal details before it's official with people getting blasted for doing it. I'm sure this story is correct but should the newspapers release the name before the official announcement? http://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/Body-in-sea...d-to.4978268.jp Anyway sad news. They would not give a name unless it was correct. Very sad news though.
Stavros
Police have not yet released the name of the man. Isn't the reasoning behind that because they want to make sure that the next of kin have been informed first! three children and grandchildren. bluemonday
Following on from the fuss about that traffic accident and the editorial that followed, is the local rag trying to establish a principle or prove a point?

slinkydevil
The newspapers have changed the headline from "believed to be..." to "police have confirmed" So I guess this thread has no relevance now.
manxman2
no relevance ..?? eddie was one of the best blokes you could spend an hour or 2 with socialising .. deeply sarcastic and sometimes extremely whitty .. great company if you like and understand dark humour .. he was surrounded by yes men like taggart .. and really enjoyed being taken the piss out off in away non of his usual company would dare too.. i lost contact with him about 15 years ago and only bumped into him every now and then but even so we would chat for 20 mins or so .. its always a pleasure for me to bump into people like eddie . its a sad loss .. Max Power
Actually a true gent who took a lot of stick due to the opinions of drinkers! RIP....very sad indeed!
slinkydevil
no relevance ..?? I knew him too and only spoke with him a couple of weeks ago and echo all your sentiments. The 'relevance' was my issue with IOM newspapers using the "believed to be" headline and jumping the gun - they have changed it now so it's not important. %age
A True gent . . . ? Where's that one from, the 'Manx book of phrases to use when someone departs this life'? Eddie Ardern gained a lot of respect in many circles and of course was quite a star footballer for Castletown all those years ago. He could be quite a charmer too. A successful businessman, he surely made plenty. I don't think he would appreciate all the gush though.
