Domestic Electricity Supplier Faces Competition

Competition has finally arrived in the Irish electricity market:

Competition

Bord Gais is undercutting the previous near-monopoly supplier the ESB by 10% (up to 14% if you are a gas customer and pay by DD). Airtricity is undercuting the ESB by 10%. At present the regulator will not allow the ESB to drop its prices though may well do so when the customer base has been spread around some more.

Interestingly both Bord Gais and Airtricity are including electricity sourced via the UK interconnector in their energy supply. Shame we can't do it here instead of being stuck with what the Treasurer might describe as a "Rolls Royce" energy supplier.
