Cronky
And as the responses show, some people have little idea about how much information the Government is collecting about our personal lives and why they are doing it.
keyboarder
I might just go to this meeting. It does seem to me that Jack Straw has lost the plot a bit.
Cronky
I hope someone asks the guy how much personal data the Isle of Man Government intends to start collecting about us and: A. Can we trust them not to abuse the situation? B. Can we trust them to keep the data safe? Because: DTL apologises for email blunder It looks like we are starting down the UK road of losing stuff. bluemonday
PAG are concerned about the gradual erosion of personal liberty with the adoption, by our own government, of UK measures that may be inappropriate for us here. And therein lies the solution. Don't blindly follow across. Given that ( for the sake of an example ) disability discrimination laws are lying on a shelf in tynwald ( keys sems to have no problem with not following the UK on that one yet ) but ' with the adoption, by our own government, of UK measures that may be inappropriate for us here.' iom gov seems happy/eager to copy. Cronky
Hopefully this will work: DTL apologises for email blunder also: Manx Radio: Data breach a warning, DTL apologises This 'data creep' situation has crept up over the years in the UK but thankfully we have been insulated in the Isle of Man from a lot of the problems. There's no excuse for local politicians copying the 'Big Brother Government' culture given that we can all see how things have gone in the UK. Hope someone reports back from the meeting. Furthermore the emails can be can be copied indefinately. The same with any other electronic data loss. Remember the discs scandal??? Those national insurance numbers can never be recalled. Does anyone know what electronic data they hold on our kids in the Isle of Man???
keyboarder
"The error was noted within 40 minutes and the email recalled immediately" - doubt it.... once an email has left, it can't be recalled. This is the scary bit. Do they really have so little idea on the technology side that they actually believe this nonsense? Or do they think we are so stupid that we will believe in their ability to recall? Not only are these buffoons not to be trusted with keeping our personal data confidential, but Ben Goldacre convinced me in an article from yesterday's Guardian that the way they analyse the data will be virtually hopeless in the so called fight against terrorism. Read All About It! A cynic would probably convince themselves that this data is being harvested for eventual commercial purposes.
Cronky
Ha Ha. PAG have picked up that the Isle of Man has started losing data too: Manx Radio News "The usual cry is: 'if you've got nothing to hide, why be concerned?' "Well, I think these latest incidents, locally, do illustrate that we all must be concerned."
