theambo
So what are your grounds for objection Lee54? Planning accepted that to have boats over 2nts high or to allow boats with raised masts in the Boat park (paid for by tax payers) would spoil the view from the new appartments that are to be built. Then why buy a flat overlooking a harbour / marina and existing boat park ? If someone doesnt like the view of boats, be they in the water or not, the simple answer is dont buy a property next to a port where the chances are you might catch occasionally catch sight of a horrid boat with a mast. Pretty straight forward in my book.
Tempus Fugit
wasn't there a condition on the original store that they couldn't sell electrical goods ?, that seems to have gone by the board already and who in their right mind would pay for a luxury apartment overlooking a multi-story car park and supermarket ? cheeky boy
Tesco is a major source of congestion in lower Douglas, allowing them to expand this site is madness. However this may be just a ploy to justify building a huge superstore on the outskirts of town, which would definatley cause more empty shops in Strand St and take money out of the local economy I think any non-food expansion of Tesco would be bad for the island in the long term
bishbashbosh
Not sure about a new storey for the cark park - a little too close to The Nunnery? Also, they need a bridge across the river onto the Castletown road to help ease the traffic. Should be good tho.

triskelion
Those in the competition who do not survive will hopefully be fit and bright enough to offer specilaist services or retrain That's the whole point - it isn't a competitive market when everyone has to exist within the Tesco paradigm or die. cheesemonster2005
Layered car park, layered shop floor, a cafe .. oooooh. Still an arse of a place to drive to. Needs to be moved to a better location. How about Ramsey? Why don't you use the bus instead and help save the environment? Or if you live in Foxdale use a local store? Tesco's position right next to the bus station should be an encouragement for more people to use the bus.

The boat park would have spoiled the views out to sea. What will a rise of the tesco roof spoil the view of? The bus station? Boats have always been part of Douglas Harbour, Expencive empty flats have not and as many others have pointed out the roads cant handle the trafic. Gladys
But it isn't like that any longer, is it Lee? You can't always look back and think times were better then, they weren't for very many people and had probably more social inequities than now. Fishing has gone so we will never see Douglas harbour like that ever again. What we need now is to envigorate it with other replacement commerces; Tesco and Dandara being less popular but the only apparent choices at the moment.
