Why is the Villa being re painted, its not long since they spent £millions on it ?

Oh Jeebus - is there any thread into which you can't inveigle a claim that some evil (and probably non-local) contractors have done a substandard job?

I thought the Government had no cash.

Why don't you ask the public servant responsible, and stop posting stupid questions here that nobody's going to answer?

Actually, it is a very reasonable question. If you bothered to take a look up-close at the Villa Marina and especially its Colonnade, you'd see that it is in disgraceful condition owing to poor design and, more than that, piss-poor or, more accurately, non-existent maintenance. Have a look at the guttering, the walls and ceilings of the Colonnade, the rust trail trickling down from the mural on the wall of the Villa, the rusting light-fittings and chipped wall corners, the filthy flooring, the paint peeling and damp soaking through just about everywhere. The people that did the renovations at enormous public (i.e. your and my) expense were definitely the "E" team and those responsible for the maintenance (or, more accurately, lack thereof) since then wouldn't last 5 minutes in a competitive private environment.

So good to see people actually doing something to try and help humanity in whatever form.

...though so far no one has yet taken up my kind offer to help humanity by incinerating chavs and 'big bother', 'pratting about on ice' and 'Xcrement Factor' viewers.

Augustus, it's a reasonable question when asked of the appropriate person. Lee pops on here and asks these loaded rhetorical questions, it's a complete waste of time. If he's really bothered, he should ask someone who's involved, otherwise he should say what he thinks.

Aaaaaaaanyway - well done to Dean and all the others taking part in today's events. We're just off to see it all and catch up the latest info and catch up with friends. So good to see people actually doing something to try and help humanity in whatever form. No matter what your opinions, it's surely better than sitting on your arse complaining, tearing your hair out and doing nothing.

Present company excepted of course.

Yeah, I enjoyed it, and quite a lot of it was based around cost rather than planet saving, which is good. I'm always a little disheartened with the difficulty involved though. Stuff like insulation, recycling, transition movement, food miles was interesting and applicable to daily lives. Photovoltaic cells, wood chip boilers and ground pump systems are simply beyond the reach of most people, and while they make good eco-porn, it can be a bit depressing that these things aren't easier to access.

The driving simulator thing was brill, the music good and the pork baps from the lady in the market very good :)
