Newsbotism - sparks around diesel can be hazardous. Thanks for the warning.

No it can't, I've never seen diesel light from a spark, it will not light even from a struck match

Officers described the incidents as "rare",

looks like this is now the official response for every crime on the island

If diesel leaks as a spray :ie vapourised, at the right mixture with air it is highly volatile and a spark will certainly ignite it.

Yes i agree the atomized diesel spray which requires high pressure will burn but poolsor streams of diesel are quite safe and i have in the past put a wiring loom fire out on a machine with a bucket of diesel as that is all that was at hand :whistling:

but you dont normally get 'that' situation when your syphoning/draining a tank of diesel fuel as most pumps used to steal fuel are low pressure/high flow

but you can throw your argument at most situations and get a fire if the conditions are just right  you just stay away from custard powder as that can be a killer

I seem to remember reading that Dr Otto's original engine ran on coal dust.

Maybe the thieves have run out of heating oil and are going 'old school'?

I remember as a nipper watching 'Tomorrows world' and there was a converted diesel engine that would run on powdered algae

Manx lorry drivers are urged to make sure their vehicles are secure after a spate of diesel thefts.

Source : http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/world/...man/8031467.stm

Thought for the day:

I wonder if in an alternative reality Isle of Man, thieves are stealing the lorries but first draining the tanks and leaving big puddles of diesel behind.

Or in another reality just filling up the tanks with diesel.

Or in yet another reality, the lorries are stealing thieves.

And so on

Infinite universes.

Infinite worlds.

Infinite possibilities.

But in each one is there a Newsbot?

Breathe in

Breathe out

Relax

It is far more likely that the vehicle in question just deposited his diesel all over one of our roundabouts like the buses do.
