And what, exactly, will this give to our poor little souls who have nothing to do?

Is it not about choices, atleast they will have a choice as to whether they go or not, at the moment they have no such choice.

I've not seen any "rubbishing" of the initiative, just some 'canIhavesome' type commenting.

How would you describe this comment then Pat , maybe not 'rubbishing' but this and the other comments Graculus has made seem a little negative to me.Just my opinion though.

The shed is great, pity there's no toilets and the kids have to go to the local pub to relieve themselves.

Better than nothing stop gap accommodation.

Thank you Mrs Craine.

Never noticed that The Shed hasn't got toilets before you said that. Most of the people that I know who go to the Shed only live a few minutes walk away so the toilet issue whilst not being ideal isn't too much of an issue.

The Factory which is above a church in Ramsey and has some small links to the Church certainly does not ram its religious views on the teenagers that go there , its just somewhere for them to go , something to do rather than just hang around the streets , so maybe this new venue in Douglas will be like that. One thing is for certain that the teenagers I know would not go there if they had religion rammed down their throat and I think that the teenagers in the Douglas area won't put up with religion being rammed down their throat. The other alternative is if you don't like religion being rammed down their throats , volunteer some of your own time.

What would you like them to do?

What I would like 'them' to do is immaterial. Perhaps, though, you can tell me what you expect this initiative will do for our yoof?

Reading some of the posts on this thread is incredible. Do you really think that a significant proportion of teenage kids on the Island are going to sign up to something that's endorsed by a bunch of happy-clappies? You'd stand more chance of banning the TT on the basis that it's the work of the Devil.

I would like this initiative regardless of who takes them to succeed and help provide a necessary outlet for them to have fun in a safe environment. I do not see this as a bad thing and do not say that you're making this out to be bad thing either, but I'd rather them being in an area that is a little controlled, rather than they hang around on street corners.

BBC - Plans afoot to keep young 'busy'

"They can have a coffee, get advice from our youth workers if they need it and socialise with friends."

Golly how times and attitudes have changed. Being a teenager in the 1970's I cannot imagine that we would have ever 'sought advice' from some Government 'youth worker'. Who will be running the 'youth workers' and what advice will they be offering?
