manxman2
right just to clear this lot up, about cows not attcking, young cattle, will prob come over at a rate of knots, and yes stop if u stand your ground, chances are u will get hit because there just playing, but nowt like whats happined, a dairy car wont chage u like this because thay dont have calfs at foot, there taken away in the first day, so thay group them in the above, now suckler cows and calfs are a diffrent breed complety, thay will charge, thay will kill you if u let them, have no bones about it, a suckler cow, is a dangeros beast when it has a calf, i worked with cattle for over 20 years, and i seen what damage a suckler cow will do to ppl, and trucks seen many a 4x4 wrote off when thay feel like thay have to protect them and there calfs, when we get suckler cows and calfs in, we do not use dogs as thay wind the cattle up thay even see a dog and u can be sure as shit, that thay will go for the dog, once thay had the dog thay will go for the next moveing object what ever it may be, person quad 4x4, what ever manxman2 you are talking out of your ass, maybe u been with dairy cows and young haifers, and u know your right with them, id stand me ground with them and 9/10 times nowt happin, but i know for a fact that if it was a herd of suckler cows with calfs running, i be clean over the nearest hedge or gate, i work with them and i know what damage thay can do and, just like humans, u allways get a few bad buggers, that will want to kill you the moment u step on there ground see what i mean about the only thing thicker than a cow coming from foxdale. worked with them my ares .. ive worked with them and i know only to well.. .. and when was the last time you saw sucklers in fields. no farmer on this island that has public footpaths running over his land would have sucklers on that land .. and anyone going onto private land with dogs or otherwise without permission deserses all they invite.. bluemonday
Altogether now folks! The farmer and the cowman should be friends. Oh, the farmer and the cowman should be friends. One man likes to push a plough, the other likes to chase a cow, But that's no reason why they cain't be friends. Territory folks should stick together, Territory folks should all be pals. Cowboys dance with farmer's daughters, Farmers dance with the ranchers' gals. (repeat) I'd like to say a word for the farmer, He come out west and made a lot of changes He come out west and built a lot of fences, And built 'em right acrost our cattle ranges. The farmer is a good and thrifty citizen, no matter what the cowman says of things. You seldom see 'em drinkin' in a bar room Unless somebody else is buyin drinks. But the farmer and the cowman should be friends. Oh, the famer and the cowman should be friends. The cowman ropes a cow with ease, the farmer steals her butter and cheese, but that's no reason why they can't be friends. Territory folks should stick together, Territory folks should all be pals. Cowboys dance with farmer's daughters, Farmers dance with the ranchers' gals. I'd like to say a word for the cowboy, the road he treads is difficult and stoney. He rides for days on end with jist a pony for a friend. I sure am feelin' sorry for the pony! The farmer should be sociable with the cowboy if he rides by and asks for food and water. Don't treat him like a louse make him welcome in your house. But be sure that you lock up your wife and daughters! Territory folks should stick together, Territory folks should all be pals. Cowboys dance with farmer's daughters, Farmers dance with the ranchers' gals. Yeehaw!!!! *Rides off towards mountain road in the surrey with the fringe on top*

My mother-in-law was telling me a farmer from a farm up by Vondy's garage near Ramsey that got trampled badly years ago by his cattle. I'd imagine 99% of the public have some sense on entering fields with livestock in though. I believe the woman involved last week had a punctured lung - sounds like an injury from cattle to me and not just a fall onto grass.
manxman2
thats why i said members of the public .. they get the respect when required from farmers. .. even then things can go wrong they are big animals a milker.. and the puntured lung sounds like falling heavy on uneven ground to me .. even more so if turned to flee before going down and playing dead .. musta hurt like hell so she musta been very frightened to put up with the pain whilst playing dead. Snaipyr
Love all the advice about keeping dogs on a lead, but release it if cows start to take too close an interest. How many dogs know the command 'fuck off to the other side of the field and take the cows with you'. I know someone who had a very scary experience on a public footpath in the south last week - she released the dog and shouted at it to go away, but it stuck right by her. She managed to escape over a wall, but dog trainers, take note - teach 'Piss Off' as well as 'Come Here'!

manxman2
in your case that would make it 2 dumb animals either end of a lead being chased by a herd of even dumber animals .. nay ATTACKED by even dumber animals.
Klimp
From IOMTODAY `The cows had moved to another field by now and Mr Bazille found his wife 'sitting on a slant in the middle of a very muddy field, incapable to say anything else but ''Don't touch me'' between her teeth.' What was she doing in the `middle' of the field, bejesus!!. To use a public right of way, surely you are supposed to walk around the edges next to the fence.... Ive lived on a farm for many years, and people that went on the public right of way always respected the farmers land by walking the edges. You can put up as many signs as you want but you can't stop stupid people being stupid and basically walking into a field full of cows with calves with a dog is just being stupid. I mean who the f**k with an IQ of more than 10 actually believes cows are dangerous? How many similar "vicious" cow attacks happen across the world daily? The whole story is a joke.
