Someone Else Please Say It For Me

Potentially stormy weather off the south west of England has delayed the arrival of the Steam Packet's new fast craft.

Manannan was due to leave Portsmouth tomorrow and enter Douglas Harbour for the first time at 10am on Saturday.

However, the Steam Packet has changed its plans, and the vessel is now expected around midday on Monday.

Steam Packet chief executive Mark Woodward says it was planned to take advantage of the long journey and do some specialist equipment testing and calibration work.

However, that needs to be done in relatively calm conditions, and waves four to five metres high are forecast during the next couple of days.

The vessel's in-service date of May 22 won't be affected by the delay.

So the high winds we're currently experiencing have caused the delay of the delivery by a couple of days. Which is still 10 days before it's due to start carrying passengers.

Sorry, what is it that you're popping blood vessels over?

theman clearly does not realise that his staple diet of crisps and dips comes over on the Ben, which IS capable of going out in a gale.

So we have to wait another couple of days for the much heralded "new" fast craft to arrive, but it still won't be late, because it isn't due to start operating until 22 May (assuming it has its tables and chairs by then). But wasn't it originally going to start on May Day, May Day.

Nothing much to pop blood vessels about. Historically, new Steam Packet ships have often failed to turn up in time for TT (but in the past they used to have plenty of all weather back-up cover :) )

regardless of when it was supposed to start service, it was according to SP spout, going to be here 10am saturday, now it isn't. so 'late' or 'delayed' is a fairly accurate statement even if it has no direct affect on passenger schedules THIS time.

on another note, i thought this new tub was supposed to be a lot better at handling bad seas?? could it haved sailed if they wanted? or are they needing a mill pond to sort out gear?

what i really wanted was an 'honest' reply from someone who knows what is required 'really', not quotes of SP BS, they are good with BS as we all know. if the thing sank they'd tell us they were testing the lifeboats and emergency response times!!

I might be being nostalgic and romanticising over the 'old boats' but I have to say the restaurants on the old boats, with their nice cutlery, plates and service were far better than the 'J'wan chicshken ding? or Liseareria wiff dat?' followed by microwaved dog food. I HATE the steam packet food, it is dire.

Last time I was on the Ben, the chicken curry and both wasn't bad at all.

Arrgh that it should come to this, me being complementary about Racket.
