Amadeus Posted May 27, 2009 Share Posted May 27, 2009 Geoff Cannell Memorial Charity Golf Day On Friday 5th June 2009, TT stars and local sports enthusiasts will pay tribute to TT commentator Geoff Cannell at a special charity golf day to be held in memory of Geoff at Glen Truan Golf Links in Bride, Isle of Man. For one day only, all eighteen holes around the course at Glen Truan will be specially named with a TT theme, with golfers playing holes ranging from Barregarrow to Black Dub! There will be special appearances from TT stars including Dave Molyneux and Victor Gilmore, along with new rider James Hillier, Ian Armstrong, Rob Barber and Steve McDonald. MGP rider Roy Richardson will also be taking up the challenge of negotiating the course, along with former rider Nick Jefferies who will be teeing off with a team from Manx Radio. Race commentator for North 1 TV Steve Parrish, team manager Rob McElnea and Yamaha's Andy Smith have also agreed to play if their busy schedule allows. This special event has been organised through the hard work and dedication of a number of the members at Glen Truan including Eric Corkish, who said: "We see this event as a fitting tribute to Geoff who for so many years was the commentator who knew so much about the TT and sport in general on the Isle of Man. All proceeds from this special event will go towards the Joey Dunlop Foundation and the Rob Vine Fund - what better tribute could there be than to raise funds for these two special Manx charities through two sports in which Geoff was directly involved". Additional funds will be raised through a raffle on the day, and donations will be taken for both charities throughout the day. Eric continued: "We have received tremendous support from golfers, TT enthusiasts and local businesses who have all contributed to the event in many ways. Special thanks go to all those who have kindly sponsored the event including Isle of Man Bank, Allied Irish Bank, ECS International, Edgewater Associates, Zurich International, Canada Life International, Raymotors, Glenn Cooper, Swagelock Engineering, Eden Park, Dohle Ship Management, Spectrum Windows, Penketh Millar Architects, Colas Ltd, Sadler's, FCX Business Post, Home Strategic and two individuals Mike Barker and Alan Cook". We would also like to thank Richard and Helen Radcliffe for allowing us to host the event at Glen Truan and we look forward to raising as much money as possible for these two worthy local charities on the day". Although my mum will be happy when it's finished, she reckons my dad has been using the organisation of the event as an excuse to play golf even more than usual lol EDIT: Dont eat my mums sandwiches!!
