Declan
Barry and Robin Gibb, and their late brother Maurice, will be made freemen of Douglas. What benefits are there for freemen of Douglas? Do you get to park in the mayor's spot to take a phone call? Does Maurice's benefits include the freedom to walk through any wall in Douglas going "Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Staying Alive Staying Alive"

nipper
What benefits are there for freemen of Douglas? None, but the chances of David Christian, our Glorious Leader, having his picture with the Bee Gees splashed over the Newspapers are extremely high. manshimajin
The Isle of Man honour three of its most famous sons with a set of eight stamps marking their 50th anniversary. Much better to rename Ronaldsway after them. Airport Directrice, Ann Reynolds, said that "the renaming of Isle of Man Airport to 'Bee Gees International Airport' would be a reassuring move for Manx taxpayers who would at last see a real change for their £60 million investment." She added that the change would be subject to a consultant's report but that Tynwald had already voted an additional capital budget of £5 million for signage changes, additional car parking and sunglasses for Control Tower staff. When asked about the potental of the name change to increase passenger numbers she replied "Perhaps, but our security staff are already at full stretch so any increase in passengers will be subject to raising landing charges." Albert Tatlock
The Manx AA Regiment was turned down for the freedom of Douglas. Not many of them left now. Of course - these guys that have done a few tunes deserve it far more. Not. More toss-pot-politics from the leaders of Douglas Borough - who no doubt probably think it would be very jolly for them and their families to meet the BG's. Christian needs his arse kicked. Of course - these guys that have done a few tunes deserve it far more. Not. Are these servicemen from the Second World War? Why did they get turned down, don't suppose you know the reason? RAF men have received the freedom of Douglas in the past. The Bee Gees are just famous and happened to live in Union Mills - that's it. Probably better to attach no importance to such gifts if they are given simply because they have Manx connections and are famous. Same with the bestowing of honours by the Queen (or rather government). Are they important?
