Oh, and popularity is no guarantee of quality he was recording artist, entertainer,one of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice.. But he was, at one point in his life, an excellent (technically if nothing else) singer and an extremely accomplished writer, composer and performer, again both by popular and technical standards. Its music every parent can accept their children listening to. I found the spin and wierdness of his life increasingly off putting and as his later output simply didn't match the quality of his earlier work I found him increasingly becoming a freek show. The evidence presented at his trial while not enough to gain a conviction showed behaviour I believe was deeply inappropriate. Money had reduced the man's self control, sycophants encouraged ever greater absurdities. I think the man had few friends and no grounding in the real world. He had essentially lost himself.
