It is a training exercise in conjunction with the Coastguard and RNLI. They will be doing the training in Douglas, Peel and Port Erin / Port St Mary and I think that they mentioned Laxey or Ramsey. It was mentioned on Manx Radio tonight anyway so no need to panic.

More details here: http://www.three.fm/raf-and-rescue-helicop...n-island-191061

The RAF valley search and recue [sic] helicopter team are visiting the Island this week.

They're here for a course of land and sea exercises with the Isle of Man coastguard and lifeboat teams.

Members of the Manx police, fire, ambulance and civil defence will also be attending.

Obviously http://www.iomtoday.co.im/ will catch onto this worthy news story somewhere about next Wednesday no doubt.

Thanks for your reply Stavros, glad it was only an exercise. :)

Yes, indeed! Imagine having to search for signs of life around Peel!

There's life all right, but not as we know it.

Yes it was only an exercise in conjunction with the local coastguards and RNLI. They were in Ramsey earlier and as a crew member on the Ramsey Lifeboat I was lucky enough to take part in the exercise and was winched up from the deck of the lifeboat into the helicopter along with others of the crew....What an amazing experience it was too.
