jonnyrottens' post 201

Probably the most well thought out and written post I'll read on this forum ever.

Well said.

I agree with most of 'jonnyrotten''s post, but what it doesn't address is the basis for the moral objections to deaths in road racing, which is what the majority of objections have been based on.

Some people like to do dangerous things and in general they probably have a right to go on doing so if they choose. If their marriage partners tolerate it, that's their call, not ours.

That doesn't mean that Government departments should organise high-risk profit-making ventures and invite people to come and test their luck.

Why not? If riders are aware of the risks, which seems to be the consensus here, and participate voluntarily, what are your objections based on?

What forms our attitudes on what is acceptable? On this matter there is considerable variance of opinion on what is an acceptable level of deaths, so it's not a widely held belief.

Some of us think that if men want to hurl themselves at a wall at 200mph they are entitled to, and if the government wants to run it as a profit-making event, then that's fine.

You may disagree, but why?

I fully agree. A great post ;)

You will never get 100% agreement over a topic of this nature, but I do believe this whole thread has been one of the best for member participation in a long while, and has seen some very good viewpoints debated.

I've heard all sorts of rumours from bodys just being dragged aside (without bothering to halt the race, just sweep up and move on), through to just presuming the rider is dead or dying and nothing they can do.

about 3 or 4 years ago a young scandinavian in his first TT crashed into the gate post at the corner coming into Kirk Michael - as he landed up off course and declared dead at scene, he was left (? body bagged) in the front drive of the house until the session finished (I think it might have been a practice session) - there were complaints by the owner of the house abou this (got nowhere - what did he expect to happen that the session would stop whilst the body was moved?) - that rider had a very young child. There were comments that the post had not been properly protected at the time - certainly later in the week there was a substantial protection there.

His name was Joakim Karlson . The protection was put in place straight after the practice, and I think I should know.

And it was not a high speed crash,.

As for the condition of the Manx sidecar lads, Honda are to make an updated official Press release within the next day or so.

You will never stop the TT in your lifetime, the TT coarse is like a motorway compared to other meetings.

example

With 70-80 mph average speeds by amateur teams, I'm not sure that's a great comparrison with the TT. Also note that when you google it, this comes up top:.

You want to stick to what you know about.

So What, I see you have posted more SLIM facts in another thread without the facts.

Tuesday 4th August 2009

A POPULAR mechanic and successful sidecar racer was escorted by hundreds of fellow bikers as he made his final journey through the streets of Worcester today.

Hordes of bikers joined the cavalcade as it slowly made its way to Worcester Crematorium for the funeral of Phil Dongworth.
