Observer
For 4 men for only 5 days it sounds extremely expensive. I could take my whole family on a month long round the world trip for that.

Karellen
Tynwald today. Mr Downie was asked what was the cost to the taxpayer of the Governments 4 man, 5 day trip to China last year, to which he replied Im not sure but it was about £33/35k. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 4 flexible club class returns IOM to Beijing = £15,662 (Source : BA website) 5 nights in an executive suite at the Penninsula Palace Beijing = £742 each. Total - less than 19 grand. Say 20 grand with meals, taxis etc. So where does £35k come from?

Didn't even make the Accademic grade (Used to be 1S, 1A, and 1L in the first year - do they still have the same?)
ian rush
It often costs quite a bit to gain entry to trade conferences etc. I'm aware of training courses and seminars charged at £250/day p.p. so a trade delegates conference may well be the same sort of rate. Bear in mind also that when the island turns up at these things we're competing on an equal footing with every other finance centre and indeed every other country fighting for chinese money. I don't see what the problem is with China: Manx Jobs to China, Chinese Capital creating jobs in the Island. Its like buying goods off the internet rather than from the village shop. crumlin
Why not put the Government officials on the same rate of pay as those in China, that might create some new jobs for the IOM
