[BBC News] Chief's tribute to 'Manx missile'

Anyway, I too was annoyed that the BBC said Cav was 'English' - but not surprised.

Agreed as many use the word English when they mean British. If they are corrected then generally they are interested in the difference, except if you correct an English person they generaly thinks it is a fuss about nothing.

I always remember a few years back when the BBC was publicising its winter Olympics coverage by saying "Tonight England will be going for Gold in the curling". I suppose it would not have been as bad if the Curling team was not made up wholly of Scots!

Well done Mark, this is fantastic publicity for the Isle of Man.

Ditto Samantha Barks and all the rest.

The World needs to know where the Isle of Man is. That way, when the story eventually breaks, everyone will know exactly where we are.

it's hardly surprising he was 'english' when he was representing britain and not the isle of man. british and english although not the same are often used to mean the same thing, especially by numpty press folk.

And...? Just wondering, is it a need to know or just a desire that people know where we are? Is it so they come and visit us? Or just so that we are not ignored on a map?

Absolutely made up for Mark Cavendish......but why is it so important that the world knows where the Isle of Man is, "when the story eventually breaks, everyone will know where we are"...what story???

Seems like a great opportunity to:

  • Market a new stamp to replace the BeeGees
  • Rename Ronaldsway
  • Invite the TdF to do a couple of stages over here.

That'd show the Brits!

PS: How can he win so many stages and still nearly come last?
