cheeky boy
Corpy boss David Christian is hosting a "Big Tidy Up" over the wekend 19-20 Sept where we the ratepayers are invited to do our own streetcleaning Then what are we paying 58 employees at the cleansing department for ? From the corpy website : Street cleaning is undertaken throughout the Borough 364 days a year. A range of mechanical and manually-operated equipment is employed to ensure access to all areas. Street cleaning functions include: * High-mobility ‘brush and shovel’ teams in shopping and residential areas * ‘The Glutton’ (litter collection) and ‘GumGo’ (chewing gum removal) street cleansing equipment; * Litter bin emptying undertaken by all cleansing crews; * Dog waste bin emptying. (Please ensure dog waste is disposed of in a sealed bag); * Out-of-hours emergency cleansing, e.g. oil spillages and road traffic collisions. (Contact 671100). Moghrey Mie
Is someone important visiting then? Maybe the members of Douglas Corporation are going to come out of the town hall and see the state of the place.

Tempus Fugit
it's a bit of a cheek expecting shop owners to clean up the street outside their shops when all the fag-ends blowing around the street (was never like that before the ban) accumulate outside their properties, they aren't all dropped by their staff going out for a smoke and you can't be responsible for the general public coming into the shop as you have no control over them. what do they pay business rates for then ? it doesn't even include getting a bin emptied are the corpy just abandoning their responsibilities ? /rant

The Toad Of Toad Hall
Why is there suddenly such an interest in street cleaning Douglas? They haven't given it a second thought until now
Tempus Fugit
Why is there suddenly such an interest in street cleaning Douglas? They haven't given it a second thought until now they're still trying to find the Mayoral regalia and have looked everywhere else
Jimcalagon
I think they're hoping someone will find it down the back of their settee or under the piles of mattresses and old bikes on display in their front garden.
