I don't think I've ever seen a quote reported from you John.

You could always check out the Douglas Borough Council minutes online, each one is a thrilling journey through the topic of local government and public spirit

Favourite snippets of the the Policy and Resources Committee:

deciding that car park inspector's uniforms remain unchanged;

discussing the production of a DVD of the Bee Gee's Freedom of the Borough ceremony;

expressed concern that the number of their meetings be limited to 120, as they currently find themselves attending meetings for no remuneration at the end of the municipal year;

lamenting that the council crest is too detailed to fit on small reflective tags being distributed to school children; and

complaining there aren't enough car parking spaces around meeting chambers they've had assigned to them whilst the old one is being rewired.

Granted, I've filtered out all the important stuff to leave the Stoneybridge town council style material ;) As an aside, it's a bit grim seeing how many contracts are issued mainly on the criteria of who offers the lowest tender (at least that's the impression the minutes give).

Come on tell the truth you did edit it for just the exciting bits........

The Council Meetings are also recorded using the small micraphones we talk into..

Properly done, a festival may have a great future reaching beyond just the IOM.

Negative Corpy comments/soundbites will not help that cause.

People should defend the use of Nobles Park for this, a public park that is so under utilised, easy to get to (much of Douglas can walk there and people can bus there from many areas, plus other buses can be put on), easy to police etc. etc. There's actually plenty of parking to be had if the road between the college and St Ninians is closed and organised properly as a car park (wouldn't cause that much inconvenience, as most people can get out Ballanard Road way - and a 'lane' could be coned off if access is required). Traffic could easily be diverted.

Granted £5K isn't much - but that depends on who's expected to foot the bill to 'put things back as was' at the end - cleaning, turf replacement etc. etc. Maybe some kind of a compromise can be reached if a heftier profit is made.

If the organisers don't fight for it, and stick to their guns, then we'll have to rename it 'No-Balls Park'.
