- Thank you to those who completed the Tynwald Approval Ratings Poll that was posted on This Thread

Essentially people were asked whether they Approved, Disapproved or had No Opinion about each member of Tynwald. This gives figures like this -

Approve 54%

Disapprove 40%

No Opinion 6%

(the above is Obama's ratings in America last week)

Now if you take the percentage of people who disapproved of a person from the percentage who approved you get their popularity ratings so Ombama would have a score of 14%. So here is the Top Approval Ratings for Tynwald Members -

1 Phil Gawne 30.91%

2 Allan Bell 19.09%

3 Dudley Butt 19.00%

4 Noel Cringle 15.00%

5 Peter Karran 13.00%

6 Steve Rodan 10.89%

7 Juan Watterson 10.78%

8 David Callister 9.09%

9 John Shimmin 0.00%

10 Anne Craine -0.91%

Heh, I hope you're planning on sending the results to the MHKs themselves.

Will they know already - as in how many do you think are active or lurking members on here already ??

Interesting results! Who were the most invisible - no opinion?

I am surprised that many replied and had an opinion about how well many of them are doing their jobs as away from a few headlines do we really have a clue how well many of them doing their day to day work as a constituency MHK or an MLC. I certainly have no idea. Even as Ministers running there day to day departments I have no idea.

Even of the two that were opposite ends of the spectrum do we have much idea of how much in their departments is down to them and how much is down to officials as for years under succesive ministers Treasury has appeared to be well run whilst Tourism & Leisure has appeared to be shambolic. How much of the complaints against what T&L have proposed are a results of Treasury not providing the funds?

I also find in interesting that the the one with the best rating is the Minister whose department saw a bank go under at a potential high cost to Island Tax Payers and some Island Businesses. I wonder if he would have had the same approval rating if the bank that went bang was a bank that many local residents had money in.

Equally the T&L minister is presently unpopular but would he be so unpopular if the issue of free pensioners travel and TT entertainment had been different.

It seems to be that a few high profile decisions making up a minority of your workload is what you are judged on it does not take a load for people to judge you.

Again talking of the two with the best and worst ratings,

Good point LL, I suppose a lot of my opinions were based on what I read/heard in local media, I genuinely couldn't place some of the MHKs who I gave a no opinion on. They may well be working away quietly and diligently in the background.
