Moghrey Mie
Peel's plans look fantastic - and good on them for taking the initiative. http://peelonline.net/peelcom/regeneration-project.html Real consultation with local people does not mean having the plans on display at one public meeting Consult... sure - but they are actually ELECTED to do stuff like this. Gets my vote. Go Peel. Well in theory the commissioners are elected to represent local people. So if they want to get to their ideas surely the commissioners need to consult those people properly. VinnieK
Peel's plans look fantastic - and good on them for taking the initiative. http://peelonline.net/peelcom/regeneration-project.html I was surprised that Peel's plans actually do look quite good. The only thing I'm not that sure about are the 'Proposed banner' things littering the streets. Throwing in a bunch of twenty foot high stainless steel poles with banners, uplighting and fibre optic beacons on top looks like a very expensive way to achieve such a tacky look. Juan C
Businesses hoping for a slice of £8m set aside for regenerating village and town centres can now check their eligibility. Source : http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/world/...man/8234992.stm That will be 7.9 mil for Douglas and a bench for each Parish.
earwacs
I think it looks quite good in the artist's impressions. In my opinion, they should put some more litter bins (or even dog poo bins) around, and perhaps attach some sort of seating to those mast things. Those stone benches will probably be a bit grotty after the skaters start trying to do tricks off them, assuming they aren't covered by drunks sleeping very comfortably upon them. I'd like to suggest they use those mast things as supports for clear roofing to provide covered walkways as protection from rain, but they'd probably be used by drunks doing roof running challenges. I imagine various bird species will find the elevated horizontal surfaces make excellent perches from which to empty their bowels. And if cars and vans start being left about the streets it won't quite seem so spacious.

The sad thing about Peel is that its a dump that the wealth generated in the manx economy has past by. If it wins this grant its going to get a chance to look like it should have 20 years ago if it was not the last bastion of a bunch of retrograde luddites that failed to see where the Island was going. Same with Ramsey. Too late now its an impoverished dump that needs lots of money just as no money is being generated.
Moghrey Mie
Businesses hoping for a slice of £8m set aside for regenerating village and town centres can now check their eligibility. Source : http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/world/...man/8234992.stm Apparently the regeneration project manager, Jonathan Crookall-Nixon, has resigned and gone back to England. It has taken 6 months to get to this stage where outline elegibility criteria and outline guidance have been agreed. I still maintain that local people haven't been asked for their ideas although regeneration committees meet regularly in Ramsey and Douglas. Of the three meetings in Ramsey, two were cancelled by MHK.
