JonnoPromotions proudly presents Patsy Matheson, accompanied by Clive Gregson with local support from Barry Nelson at the Centenary Centre, October 3, 2009.

Following a successful UK tour supporting the release of her first solo album in 11 years, “A Little Piece of England”, Patsy Matheson, known for her work as founder member of the award-winning acoustic quartet, Waking the Witch, is embarking on a second series of British Isles dates, accompanied by legendary singer songwriter and multi- instrumentalist, Clive Gregson.

Patsy and Clive start their tour on the Isle of Man and Patsy makes her Peel debut at the Centenary Centre.

Critics and fans alike were surprised when Waking the Witch announced they were calling it a day after five successful years on the road. Yorkshire-based Patsy, Jools Parker, Rachel Goodwin and Becky Mills, whose enviable song writing skills and harmonies had been likened to a female Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, had decided it was time to pursue other avenues.

Patsy, who plays trademark mandolin as well as guitars, was a successful solo artist for some time before forming Waking the Witch. She released two albums, performed solo at Glastonbury and supported top artists including Al Stewart, Christy Moore, Gordon Giltrap, Dick Gaughan, Glenn Tilbrook, The Saw Doctors and the late great John Martyn.

Clive is probably best known for his successful work with Manx vocalist Christine Collister throughout the 80s and early 90s and for his work as leader of the cult band Any Trouble. He has also toured and recorded with Richard Thompson, Nanci Griffith, Eddi Reader and Boo Hewerdine and was the musical director for the Dennis Locorriere "Hits & History" tour in 2007. He has been voted one of the ‘1,000 Great Guitarists’ by Guitar Magazine. Clive, who is also appearing in the Autumn throughout the UK as special guest of Jools Holland, will be accompanying Patsy on acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin and accordion. This will be Clive’s first visit to the Island since 1996.

Now re-affirming her strength as a genre-hopping solo artist, Patsy, who penned some of Waking the Witch’s best loved numbers, continues to write diverse and original songs – some fragile and folk-inflected; others strident and more rocky; some, vintage Matheson, others striking off in a bold new protest song direction – all will be played on tour.

Barry Nelson is one of the finest guitarists and singer-songwriters on the Island and has been playing gigs around the Isle of Man and in the UK for more than 20 years as a member of too many different bands to mention. Val accompanies Barry on bass and vocals and this is their Centenary Centre debut too!

What people are saying about ‘A Little Piece of England’…

“The strength of her songwriting comes into evidence in the haunting, beguiling Precious Little Soldier and her passionate ballad Ulverston Gypsy” – Rock n Reel Magazine

“Sonically it falls slap bang into the rather overcrowded female acoustic singer songwriter slot but lyrically it’s head and shoulders above it. All in all a triumph” – Americana UK

“Uncluttered sound, warm and intimate acoustic guitars. If you believe the journalistic comparison that Waking the Witch were a Brit-folk version of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young then Patsy Matheson must surely have been cast in the role of Neil Young.” – Triste Magazine

“There’ll be no complaint about the power and passion of Matheson’s vocals or indeed her guitar work – there’s darkling romanticism, heart’s yearning and tenderness while other songs come with plenty of bite.” – Birmingham 101

“Fans of Waking the Witch won’t be disappointed –stripped back and bare, it’s a bold move away from what’s gone before and she has the skill to carry it off wonderfully” – Spiral Earth

One of the UK’s great contemporary female folk musicians - this record sparkles with the wit and perspective of a remarkably erudite singer/songwriter - www.freshdeermeat.com

“One quarter of now defunct acoustic darlings Waking the Witch, Matheson’s new collection of songs; distinctive, often plaintive guitar sound and honeycomb vocals single her out as a talent demanding to be heard in her own right” – Halifax Courier

“Top notch guitar playing; an album of wide appeal” – Get Ready To Rock

“A bunch of great new songs in a gently intricate sound world – experiences and feelings common to all of us are rarely voiced with such percipient sensitivity and powerful honesty as here” – Netrhythms

‘It’s a winning return – all handsomely delivered’ – Leicester Bangs
