tribz
Keep meaning to fire up the old speccy and have a blast again. Doubt I'd get anything done for a month if I did.
Dr Gonzo
It'd take me a month to get the hang of the controls and physics again

Jimcalagon
I tried playing this back in the 80s and was distinctly underwhelmed - seemed to spend hours looking for a planet and then get destroyed by a pirate which appreaed from nowhere. Thargoid Killer
Didn't like the sequels - Newtonian physics ruined it for me.

tribz
Is there any modern takes on it ? I'm currently playing Eve Online which I'd say was a 21st (or is that 231st) century version.
jacko
Is there any modern takes on it ? You could give `Freelancer` a try. http://www.microsoft.com/games/freelancer/
Jools
Never could get the hang of the original but Elite 2 was fantastic once you got past the sol > barnards star > sol safe trading route and earned enough money for a cobra mk3. Then the fun began with pirates Good times, even if it did get a bit boring once you got your panther clipper. I started over again a while back when I found Frontierverse which had some nice guides on it and told me how to do some things which I hadnt worked out on my own. Never have found a decent replacement for it. Freelancer is probably the closest but it doesnt have the same feel of freedom that Elite has.. hopefully Elite 4 will be released one day!
