It’s expanded, out of scope, taken in a lot more than the brownfield site. At huge extra cost. It’s really not clear what it’s going to be. Social, key worker, commercial rent, or sold off at profit. Easier to get backing for apartments/commercial. Precisely. At least if MDC have the site in their portfolio any development decision-making process would be more transparent than the last one! I think some people don't realise how big the site is and what it takes to develop something of that size. I'm not against a public/private venture but the developers must have a proven track record of making things happen and have the financial wherewithal to carry it out. As far as hotel brands are concerned, the big names won't sign up unless and until the planning is in the bag and the first spade is in the ground. As with the people who think the whole planet needs to be covered in art installations, the same people look at a site like this and decide that whatever is built there it has to be BIG.
