Looks like Joney Faraghers going to have her ultimate dream granted, with a new bus station. Tynpotwald having voted a motion for plans to be drawn up and presented at December 2024 sitting. This is going to be interested as plans for a multi million pound bus station and multi use site have already been lodged. Would IOMG ultimately take back the site, and how much is this fiasco going to cost the taxpayers? From the NPM -

The debate over the potential for a new bus station in Douglas has again reared its head in Tynwald.

In July last year, the court supported a motion brought forward by Douglas East MHK Joney Faragher, saying that establishing a new facility should be 'a priority'.

However, loose plans have only recently been published as part of the redevelopment proposed for the Lord Street site.

Last month, Joney Faragher asked the infrastructure minister for an update on the situation.

At this weeks' sitting, she implored members to reaffirm their support and called for the Department of Infrastructure to work up a detailed plan and bring it back to the court in December.

Onchan MHK Julie Edge, and Douglas Central MHK Chris Thomas supported the motion, but called for the plan to be fully costed when brought before Tynwald.

Two amendments were also put forward.

The first, from Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Tim Glover, called for the plan to be debated when brought before the court, and the second, from Rushen MHK, Michelle Haywood, stipulated that the scheme shouldn't be dependent on the completion of plans for the Lord Street Site.

In the end, Ms Faragher's motion was passed, as amended, with full backing of the court.

The December deadline is something Ms Faragher says she's 'keeping everything crossed' that that will actually happen:

Go to Jersey, get the designs for Liberation Station bus station in St Helier, build that here. Done.

Oh no, we can't be copying Jersey - Manx (costly) solutions  for Manx (but actually universal) problems.

Or, just use the sea terminal.
Its already built and ready to go and will cost virtually nothing.

Its already rammed with vehicles parking on sea terminal business.

Personally i cant see why we even need a bus station. What a waste of money. Its not like the line up on Lord Street is not adequate if there were just some toilets and a departure/arrivals board.

It's not very pleasant to wait for a bus in the wind and rain.

This has been pointed out so many times it's ridiculous. Idiots in power would rather spend, spend spend
