My Mum had her purse nicked in M&S when I was about 12 in Christmas week. Twas only her friends helped out or it would have been bleak for us ... ...GOMH*... Cash machines normally 'pull' the cash back into the machine if it's left there too long - usually about 1 min after. So you probably just missed, or maybe even saw the person yourself.
