Ripsaw
It had been hoped the work, which would see the apron around the main terminal building improved and the number of plane parking stands increased from 10 to 14, could start straight away and be complete by October 2006. Although planners gave the scheme the green light, they said work could not begin until the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry had been able to identify and remove any orchids found in the area of the proposed works – which is predominantly paved-over. Philip Pain "DAFF's wildlife section came to us as part of the planning process and pointed out concerns about orchids in one corner of the proposed works,' he said. 'Correspondence was exchanged which clearly showed the concern was for this one corner, but, unfortunately, the way the condition in the planning approval is written it says no work can start on site until after August 1".
