ans
I'm quite sure a lot of workplaces ban many types of websites. Most of the people I know who work in the finance industry can't access Hotmail, or Manx.net mail or a whole slew of material and resource. Mostly ones that have a degree of interaction where you would post, compose mail or update news etc. No doubt the conspriracy theorists will make more of this than they need to, but it's a very common business practice. Billy One Mate
Ans would agree wholeheartedly with your comments if it was all non related work sites that had been banned, but this is not the case. So yes I will ask the question. Why ban Manxforums??? Maybe its because its in the same catergory as pornography.

Indeed, but it's not the only site to be banned either. Administrators will block sites that are being accessed to excess so perhaps your obscure military history website you look in on once a month wont be blocked, but something like eBay will be. We had this very discussion over at Manx.net when their forums were blocked and the very same people claimed it was some secret Government conspiracy plot to deny them access to free speech. It isn't. Nobody is stopping Government employees accessing anything they choose to, it's just that they have blocked them accessing it during work. And to paraphrase you, it is a non work related site after all...
Billy One Mate
Ans well put. I just hoped that they were giving this excellent site some more street cred.
access55
Just to be no help whatsoever You can probably access cached pages from google if you wanted to look something historic off the forums up. If they havn't blocked google?

ykstarr
The location from were I am posting this seems to indicate that this is not the case!ph34r.gif aha!! interesting. not starting any sort of conspiracy theory or anything else - just saying its a bummer that i can no longer access the pages at work - yes, i am a government worker. reason being on the blocked page is that it is a forum or newsgroup and government workers are not allowed to view them. however, manxbands.co.uk still works. anyway, just a bummer that's all. jim
I could still view them when I left so maybe they just haven't got round to blocking them in all dept's yet, or maybe we've been over looked. I remember they did the same to manx.net and manx online shortly before they were closed down maybe its a sign of things to come. LOOK OUT UNI! Tango
Quite right too I say. I don't pay my sodding taxes so that government workers can spend their days rabble-rousing on forums, looking at online shoe stores and downloading porn. The worst place for this kind of thing is the new hospital.......so I'm told? It just makes me so angry In fact I'm going to pen a letter to my MHK this very instant.
