manxmedia
From Energy FM website Manx Radio drop in listeners The Managing Director of Manx Radio says he's very happy with the station's latest RAJAR figures, despite it losing 13 percent of it's reach since June last year. Anthony Pugh told Energy FM that he thinks the figures released today are brilliant. They show the Government funded broadcaster's share of listening has fallen to just over 32 percent. The average Manx resident tunes in for just over 7 and a half hours a week. Earlier in the year it was revealed the station is over £400,000 pounds in debt despite generous subsidies from the Manx Government amounting to more than 3 quarters of a million pounds. I’m guessing that most of the lost listeners have gone to 3FM, but that will only be confirmed when their RAJAR figures come on stream in early 2006. When that happens all 3 radio stations will be measured by the same system. You can bet that after every RAJAR period all three station management will be issuing press releases saying how great they are doing
Biker
Manxmedia, I trust you were jesting about 3Fm increasing its listeners. Everyone that I know who tried 3FM has long given up due to its repetitive and boring style. Most of the shops that I’ve been in recently are tuned to Energy; it’s certainly my own choice, good music, lively chat and its live!
Nitro
The only reason i don't listen to manx radio anymore is because i can't tune into it because 3fm and manx radio are so close that when i try to tune in all i can get is 3fm. Although when i'm on the internet i do listen to manx radio then.
Mission
Have to second that, everywhere that I went to that had 3FM on (including us) have switched to Energy these days. Not heard a 3FM jingle in a shop for a long time now.
ccm
I did hear 3FM in Pickwicks the other day but since then it's been Radio 2. Of all the shops, garages, etc even the gym it's either Energy, Radio 1/2, sometimes 3FM but never Manx ....strange that ...
Grumble
Not strange - shops want music and little chat...which is what Manx Radio specialises in. That's why you won't hear Radio 4 in many shops or hair salons either.
Spatula girl
I'm not so sure Grumble ....there's a lot of chat on Radio 2, Jeremy Vine etc. I would say about the same as manx although the topics may be different. A quick poll of the office I work in (where we don't have the radio on) of the fourteen members of staff those who listen to radio said in no particular order 3Fm Energy Radio 1 and 2 and Talk Sport are the stations they listen to ...no-one here listens to Manx and we're a wide spread of ages from 17 to 63 ... No more "Are you going out tonight?", "Are you going on holiday this year?" or "Have you got a boyfriend?" (I nearly choked at the last one!!?! at my age!). My dentist plays MR, but also has the Daily Mail in the waiting room, so I don't suppose that is much of a guide!

He/She must be a right sadist. Imagine having your teeth pulled out and listening to MR at the same time. My boyfriend wants to add that having your teeth pulled out and listening to MR are one and the same thing!

I too used to listen to 3FM, but don't now It's either Energy or Radio 4..
Grumble
I'm not comparing...it was the first speech station I thought of. So GTBB...have you got a boyfriend??

Gladys
I'm not comparing...it was the first speech station I thought of. So GTBB...have you got a boyfriend?? Not within easy reach! It was more the idea of having a "boyfriend" that amused me, surely there would have to be a law against having a beau who had to take his pop bottles back for the deposit to take me for an evening of delight at the Rendezvous (if you remember that place)? Grumble
Before my time on the Island I'm afraid. I'm only 'Manx as the hills' in my heart - in reality I'm just another pesky stayover. Cue a fatwah from Not Mec Vannin...
Gladys
"Are you the one that wrote them Sarcastic Verses, yessir?" The Rendezvous was a cafe at the end of Castle Street, where they have just finished the new apartment block opposite the Sefton. It was used by the local youth and was viewed with some suspicion by the older generation. Although I am not quite old enough to have gone to the "Rondie" at its height (and would have been forbidden had I been old enough), it is always synonymous to me of Park Drives, Cherry B and the other tantalising delights of being a teenager! Instead of which, I cut my teenage teeth at the Douglas Head with full parental permission. Poor deluded fools!
