Monkey boy
Well i suppose if it keeps the kids safe its worth it. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/sep/10/pope-faces-protests-british-visits Agreed- he seems like an alright bloke to me. Apparently he even wears undercrackers in the bath because he doesn't like to look down on the unemployed.

- Paul -
Yesterday teatime on one of the TV news reports telling you what was on later in the programme - voice. 'And we will be meeting the young boy who will charm the Pope' That could have taken a rewrite.
John Wright
Last night on the news there was evidence of the large scale antipathy to Benedict. Most venues still have tickets for sale, at least half in most cases, and some are downsizing the venue due to lack of demand, no cutting of ticket prices! So the Catholic Church is trying to fundraise and foisting the whole cost of onto the UK tax payer. Breathtaking. WE must not forget he is a head of state as well as a head of religion. Such parts of the cost of his visit as are political should be met on the normal state visit basis, anything else should be down to the church. Any way for once it is not our problem and Tynwald hasn't voted anything towards it

That's stretching it a bit isn't it John, head of the smallest state which isn't really? That state also seems, from it's collection of artefacts, to have spent a great deal of time looting other countries. The religion he is head of, imho, should also be held responsible for the way aids is ravaging Sub-Saharan Africa.

No he should be afforded the courtesy due to the head of a micro tate at appropriate cost. Apparently this would put him below Tony Brown on a per head of population basis, but much above on wealth, whether looted or not, possibly, although I understand both coffers may be pretty bare!. Didn't the brits do a lot of looting as well, and even the Manx in Nigeria?
La_Dolce_Vita
and even the Manx in Nigeria? What are you refering to, John? I think it is understandable why the Pope makes his visits, why he is revered and respected, and why he is accorded with the status of a Statesmen (or more precisely in perception, as almost like royalty). But it is just a terrible shame that is the case.
- Paul -
Pregnant nun ice cream advert banned for 'mockery' http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11300552 An ice cream company banned from using an advert displaying a pregnant nun has vowed to position similar posters in London in time for the Pope's visit. Antonio Federici's advert showed a pregnant nun eating ice cream in a church, together with the strap line "immaculately conceived". The Advertising Standards Authority has ordered it to be discontinued, saying it mocked Roman Catholic beliefs. Antonio Federici says it will now put up new posters near Westminster Abbey. Pope Benedict XVI will visit Westminster Abbey on Friday, before holding Mass at Westminster Cathedral on Saturday.
