I suspect that Tesco may be taking things into their own hands (outwith MIC and GL) and so for white goods, for example, Tesco may have the supplier/manufacturers and or their own distribution centres containerize the goods and ship them via Mezeron. If they can get cheaper rates with Mezeron than IOMSPCo then they would be stupid not to use them. I can't see Tesco risking food shipments with Mezeron. At least they know there is a regular/scheduled service with IOMSPCo.

Mezeron sail when the match blows out the steam packet don't.

However the amount of white goods might only be a container once or twice a week.  Maximum. Wouldn’t justify Mezeron chartering a new boat.

Mezeron can, and do, sail to a schedule.  As long as the perishables can be shipped in ambient chill containers, and arrive by 6am, that’s no different to SPCo. And now that Tesco have the warehouse down by the Power Station they’ve much more flexibility for dry goods, which is most of what Tesco ( and Shoprite ) sell.

And, if Stobart owned WS Mezeron didn’t explore whether it could  offer an integrated service with its  parent’s land based operations for Tesco, there’d be something wrong in their commercial thinking.

That's why I said they wouldn't consider Mezeron for transporting food and certainly not with the vessel they have now.

Where has it been said that Mezeron will charter a new boat? Even if they do there's plenty of other non-standard cargo they could move with a bigger vessel. It wouldn't have to be much bigger that the Silver River otherwise they'd never manage to turn it in Ramsey harbour.

There's no love lost between Mezeron and IOMSPco since the SP no longer have preferential rates with anyone, allegedly.

Think you’ve misunderstood the meaning of finlo’s turn of phrase. He’s saying Mezeron, with freight, will sail in wind/weather the SPCo won’t.

Charter market quite soft at present. Renting additional tonnage, with a higher turn of speed, but similar dimensions, on a temporary basis, to squeeze rates at the SPCo would be feasible. Run along side Silver River and see what transpires.

Tesco and Shoprite Island stores must be running 150+ curtain trailers a week.

as long as Stobart/Mezeron don’t lose cash on such an operation there is no disincentive. If they then get preferential rates they can hand a chartered boat back, and rake in extra.

Anything bigger than the Silver River wouldn't work in Ramsey. And it can only be Ramsey as Mezeron would never get access to a linkspan, for obvious reasons.

Much larger vessels have and do operate from Ramsey, also Mezeron unload in Douglas when it suits.
