Its an ok area, although recently there has been too many shootings n stabbings for my liking! Little hood rats (our name for them) plague the shopping areas. Sheriff Joe Arpaio (in Arizona) who created the "tent city jail": He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them. He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their weights. Cut off all but "G" movies. He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects. Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination. He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again and only let in the Disney channel and the weather channel. When asked why the weather channel he replied "So they will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs." He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value. When the inmates complained, he told them, "This isn't the Ritz/Carlton. If you don't like it, don't come back." He bought Newt Gingrich' lecture series on videotape that he pipes into the jails. When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series might explain why a lot of the inmates were in his jails in the first place. More on the Arizona Sheriff: With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just set a new record), the Associated Press reports: About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer shorts. On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing pink boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside the week before. Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat collected on their chests and dripped down to their pink socks. "It feels like we are in a furnace," said James Zanzot, an inmate who has lived in the tents for 1 ½ years. "It's inhumane." Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic. He said on Wednesday that he told all of the inmates: "It's 120 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to wear full battle gear, but they didn't commit any crimes, so shut your goddamned mouths!" Way to go, Sheriff! Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. My mate was gobby but in some ways i cant work out whether it was all her fault for talking to them in the first place, or whether she saved me cause she kind of scared them away??? Oh well lessons get learned eh! Thinkin of moving out of the area for real, but not sure yet where too, this has been on the cards for a while! Annoying it will be though as it only takes me 15 mins door to door to get to work!! Might change job and location, but well see!!!! Got lots to think about! Im sure you would at least say "get lost" or whatever you choose. These people dont get wound up they just target their prey and do whatever and if you retaliate your facked, if you dont retaliate your also facked? However I would say I am a liberal and I dont think that these kids should be sent to boot camps or get the birch or whatever, i feel sorry for them in some ways, i wouldnt know what the best solutions was? Prison is not the answer, and in some ways they just want some love or respect at home, or even in school. Im not sayin you should be a softie, we should be strict but also understanding - i mean what i dont get is, where has the respect for elders gone??? A couple of years ago me and a couple of mates had the same thing walking through strand street, at 7 in the evening non the less. that ended up in a 12 odd 13 - 15 year olds against us three 19 year olds. There's not much you can do, except run for it. You can't lamp a 13 kid can you? there'd be up roar. I do think something needs to be done though. I agree violence results in violence but bring back the birch! and stop having regulations on the state of prisons.. They're not in there to have a good time, I always thought prison was supposed to rehabilitate the offender. If only they made knocking 7 shades of xxxx out of gobby little chav kids legal. Yet another example of Britain's nanny society breeding violent scumholes, something that infuriates me. It's not only here though, do any of you remember a girl who used to post on the old forum called Lorelei? She used to live near me and is a good friend (it was me who told her about the previous forum), she went back to live in France with her grandmother after she lost her dad last year, and she got really badly attacked in Paris in October. She was in hospital for ages and only went home just before Christmas. Locking up is too good for these people. A cage of angry lions would be a better kind of reform in my opinion. My advice, choose a different best friend, one that isn't a gobby bitch and preferably one that can handle her drink too. Oh and get a taxi home as someone else suggested. You can't confront these people and even if you do stand up for yourself (and win) who's to say you won't get done yourself for hitting a minor? The ones to look out for are the lot who have just turned 18. Their hands are tied. I would blame the judicial system in general that is too soft on crime. And things will not change until we actually start punishing the scallies rather than feeling sorry for them and giving them the social services back up while ignoring the victims. If I had my way the scallies would be birched! By Christ they would think twice before they attacked decent people again. Me waits for the flames........ I was in the car so gave chase and knocked the bastard down with the car door. Fortunately for him (and probably me) he wasn't injured just stunned - he got up and legged it.
