The Old Git
So it's the sport with most fatalities on both sides of the Atlantic. And yet most parents would be happier seeing their kids going out fishing in these school holidays rather than hanging around the streets
Tee
Anyone who is convicted of a driving offence should be made to display a brightly coloured plate on the car/bike for a period of one year, a nice bright green circle with the letter I for idiot, Just heard this on the Mannin line, its a great idea. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Will this go the same way for people who make dumb ass posts? magneto
6 penalty points instead of 12.. Two strikes and you're out - a set 3 points for speeding offences - 6 points & you’re automatically banned for a year (& re-test) or more depending on the crime. Parity between IOM and the UK. Points awarded here show up on your UK license - lose your license here & you've lost it on the 'mainland' too - vice versa. The R plate should mean what they say. Drivers on R plates should be restricted to 1.0 ltr engine cars - caught speeding... banned for 1 year (& re-test). They should pay a bond to the Gov as well - Which they get back once on completion their probationary period without incident. The money from the bond could be used to promote road safety scheme's etc. Certificates of insurance (similar to the tax disc) should be displayed on the windscreen of ALL vehicles. P.K.
The problem in mainland Britain is one of police policy as well as the way people drive. Most accidents are caused by bad driving, plain and simple. Unfortunately the police are relying more and more on cameras to police the roads. This means the amount of bad driving is going up and with it accidents. People are getting fines from cameras which alienates them from the police. As we have policing by consent this is very bad. Some cameras are clearly placed to generate fines ie out on an open road. To my mind that deprives a school of one where it would do the most good. But the real crunch is effectiveness. The cameras are placed as part of the police policy to reduce speed and therefore accidents. So every picture a camera takes is evidence of the failure of that policy. The police response? More cameras. Lunacy.

P.K.
The public response to speed cameras is not a change in general driving habits but just a change in front of the camera. Hence my "school camera" comment. Basically all they are doing is causing people who are unsure of the speed limit to brake suddenly in front of them. Needless to say this has caused accidents. More cameras. More sudden braking (inside the actual speed limit). More accidents. Lunacy.
