pongo
It's odd how these protests seem to be under reported - unlike protests in other states within the region. And yet these seem every bit as significant. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G79vv6yM50s
La_Dolce_Vita
Well...the media aren't going to end up giving a great deal of attention to Iraq. The filtering process of western media, especially in the USA, will reduce coverage on Iraq to something marginal. I mean, Iraq is supposedly democratic after the 'benevolent' intervention of the USA and Britain in setting up a government. It's a different story with countries where they are autocratic elements, such as Libya and Egypt.
pongo
I agree I think LDV. It does seem utterly hypocritical for Libyan democracy to be such a cause célèbre whilst the suppression of the Iraqi protests is largely ignored. It's almost as if there is a different agenda. I sometimes wonder whether oil is not somehow the issue. Libya is said to have vast untapped reserves. This Reuters report from last year was quite interesting: Libya warns USA it may favour rival oil firms Libya is considering giving priority to Chinese and Russian firms over U.S. energy companies
