C'mon wheres the next exciting installment of Island political life??

I though Alcohol on the boats would have been outside of the jurisdiction of the IOM government especially once the vessels were underway.  Manxman 8180 can you shed any light?

so the next time there's a fight in a pub they'll take the licence away? Talk about over reaction here.

Recently there was a 'scuffle' on board the Seacat which resulted in hospital treatment and arrests.

If the event takes place in the middle of the crossing (1.5 hours away from shore) then the safety of other passengers could be compromissed, they can not exactly hold the door open and escort them out of the premises.

Licencees and their staff have a legal obligation to run 'orderly premises'. Failure to comply risks the removal of licence. Rare, but possible, and increased if the licence holder and staff haven't acted in a manner that complies with the licence.

Drink related incidents are at the very least a nucience and a danger to others in the vicinity.

The arrests take care of the offending members of the public, sometimes it takes the threat of disqualification to make the responsible retailers reflect on the consequences.

Sorry for delay, been a bit busy today......

They apply for IOM licences to avoid the silly problem of not being able to sell alcohol for consumption 'on' the premises when within 3 miles of the Island.

Once outside that they could do whatever they liked in the way of selling alcohol, as long as it didn't contravene Maritime law. And there would be didley squat the IOM police, Tynwald or even Crumlin could do about it.

Some will remember when on certain night crossings the bar would close within a certain distance of the Island. That was the reason I believe. Of course this was when the Island's drinking laws were (even more) antiquated. Also, remember when the Gamblers were turned off when in port, also to do with various licencing.

And to anyone who decides to get pished and kick off on a boat, don't forget that you may be subject to maritime law, which is way more severe than what Mr Moyle may offer normally.
