Airlines Call For Air Passenger Duty To Be Scrapped

Four airlines from the UK and Irish Republic are calling for the UK government to scrap Air Passenger Duty.

 

Rather like the possibility of the proposed fuel duty increase being scrapped, no doubt Teare will have a squeal about this.

On behalf of the environment: keep it! If anything should be scrapped it's the management at Ronaldsway and the MHKs who nod through every proposal.

 

I think the annual loss would be ~ 24 million without the duty.

Air passenger duty should only be added when you are leaving the UK for another country,IE to Ireland,or France,Germany,Spain,etc,not from here to England,Scotland,Wales,this is a Crown Dependency of the UK government,so the only time it should be applied is when we go on a direct flight from here to another country.

This government are using the old chestnut,we are not part of the UK plea to get away with charging it,yet when it comes to everything else there Union Jacks everywhere,we have the Queen here for visits,IE Tynwald Day,Navy ships call here,they recruit for the Army,Navy, Airforce, when we buy off the internet we are classed as part of the UK,we have an agreement,IE Customs,Health etc,even celebrate Guy Fawkes,which is a English problem,also our leaders,and other notables accept OBEs,CBEs,Knighthooods from this foreign country called the UK,so taking everything into consideration,it is just a stealth tax on the people here who are struggling to live in this so-called low tax area.

Also duty paid on the Island is by an act of Tynwald and this duty stays on the Island.

In other words as of next year when this comes in we will be effectively taxed twice.
