Amadeus
Chinese firm the Broad Group grabbed world attention last year when it built a 16-storey residential block in just five days. The firm has done it again but this time on a more ambitious scale building a 180,000 sq ft hotel in the south-central Chinese city of Changsha. The remarkable achievement was completed with no injuries to any worker. The building has been designed to withstand magnitude 9 earthquakes and is claimed to be five times more energy efficient than standard towers, both in construction and materials used, and in the energy required to maintain and run the building. All the key components were prefabricated off-site. The builders took just 46 hours to finish the main structural components and another 90 hours to finish the building enclosure. Takes the DoI that long to switch the kettle on, nevermind build anything...
Lxxx
I'm sure the local Health & Safety Executive wasn't invited along to give it a once over when they'd finished.
Silentbob
H&S is one o the main reasons why this country is screwed. Darwin's law, the weak perish, the strong survive, cuts down on unemployment, keeps the economy going and makes britain great again. Job's a guddun. hissingsid
Its taken somewhat longer than this to build the apartments next to the IOM Bank in Onchan, its been so long no one can remember when they started and they still havent finished, I bet they built the great wall of China in less time. EORH
The new apartments on Lord Street just before the traffic lights must have taken at least two years to build, now there are 45 units being built as phase 8 Upper Pulrose, started early 2011,ready aprox 20 months, yet according to a Corpy newsletter it's 44,never mind Dandara are doing them,so speed will be the essence?. Oh and it won't take the DOI that long to put the kettle on,more like 15 seconds, first things first.
woolley
I wouldn't stay there. Probably fall down pretty soon if the quality of much that is produced in China is anything to go by. Take a look at the problems with the high speed railways.
spermann
In reality this will have taken months to construct. It is just that the majority of item were built and finished off site in advance.
DRIVER
i wonder if this company has seen the IOM gov ads for the five star hotel and casino, it could be up and running for the TT !!
Merkin
Hats off to them... The Germans can build a Huf Haus in about 2 weeks but the fitting out takes longer. The real time is spent preparing and assembling the parts off site and preparing the ground as Spermann says above.
