hypersniper
I'm looking at brewing some beer from scratch. Could someone let me know where I could find local Barley seed? I won't need much.
Me_Want_Cookie
Are you looking at growing it or just brewing with it?

hypersniper
Are you looking at growing it or just brewing with it? Oops, good point! I wish to grow it - so I imagine I would only need a few pints of the seed

I wish to grow it - so I imagine I would only need a few pints of the seed 1) You need to get good seed, 2) As there's a real ale festival on why not go and see if there's anyone there who could help? I did this ~ 35 years ago while at university, results were good but it was easier to use a kit from Boots. I remember Old Tom - 8.5% (or was it more then) - two pints and I could hardly walk! http://desdemoor.co.uk/robinson%E2%80%99s-old-tom-strong-ale/
Me_Want_Cookie
If you had just wanted to source malted barley i could have helped as i buy it by the sack load from the uk for brewing. Have a read of this thread http://jimsbeerkit.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=47140&sid=f96f365b64895e57a2d160add07ea4a9 it might be an idea to see which brewery he got the grain from so you can get a hold of the farmer. Bit of a PITA but it's the only instance i have heard of locally grown 2 row barley on the island. Either that or you could just buy some seed from the net.
