The reason for that was that they were aware that they could not pack everybody onto one day's ships to get them home. Sponsoring another day's events spread out the demand for spaces on the boat.

I heard a story from a reliable source, that the marquee currently being used to house the horse tram etc, at the Summerland Site is to be moved up to the TT Grandstand and used as the venue for the TT Auction. I wonder how much taxpayers £s this will cost? Is it a good use of taxpayers resources?

For starters, they won't have to purchase another marquee. See - savings already...
