John Wright
Ben was supposed to go in for annual overhaul on 22/4 and Manannan take over for two weeks, so that’s been advanced by a week. The timetable had already been changed as no evening or overnight departures have been listed for a while. Boat still operating, freight only. You could well be right, but if you are why would they not just state that instead of that slightly weird press release? It’s not for IoMSPCo to do anything but announce timetable change ( which isn’t yet on their web site ). Up to government to explain the rest. TheTeapot
So when it says "Removing the Ben from service for two weeks" means from scheduled service only, not that it'll be sat idle? The release says the Arrow will be doing the overnights. As i said, I'm confused. What you are saying makes sense though.
On The Bus
So the Ben will be used as a dedicated Plague Ship for the next 2 weeks?

I’m drawing conclusions, based on evidence, but I may be wrong. And “plague ship” is both over emotive and inaccurate. No one who has symptoms will be allowed to board. Presumably they’ll take temperatures.

People who are carrying corona quite often don't display any kind of symptoms for a few days. So it may be entirely possible for someone to pass a temperature test and still be infected. Perhaps there are better terms than plague ship, but that is potentially what it could be. Edited April 14, 2020 by On The Bus

Beelzebub3
Clearly the “plague” caught a much earlier boat or plane. 1

TheTeapot
Ashford just said that the repatriation travellers are coming back on the Manannin, without many details it sounded like they've reconfigured the lay out a bit. So I've no idea what's going on with the Ben now. Edit - nope, its big enough with just 29 coming back to keep them apart. John Wright
Yes, my meanderings and musings this morning were wrong. The dry dock facility booked isn’t operational due to Covid, so the annual overhaul has had to be postponed.
TheTeapot
Do you think it's just going to sit in Douglas harbour for two weeks then? Maybe the staff were supposed to be off work for the dry dock period and they didn't want to force them back? They use separate crews for the boats AFAIK. The dry dock wasn’t supposed to start until 22nd, anyway. I think all officers, deck and engine room crew work on the Ben in winter. They then get split for the summer. A lot of the catering and stewarding staff are seasonal and agency and brought in from the Baltic states.
