John Wright
Speaking with one of the bridge officers. Part of the problem, allegedly, is that many of the Irish tickets are roll overs from 2020 and 2021. They don’t have age/dob info. That was being collected. Again, allegedly, that’s a covid requirement, although why, and by whom, I’m not sure. I had noticed that age was being requested for online bookings when I placed my most recent booking. Who wants/needs the info? What relevance can it have? I booked this trip in May 21. Didn’t have to give dob/age, wasn’t asked as I checked in. Just passed the half way stage of the journey. hissingsid
I went to Dublin last July there were regular sailings although the time table is poor.

It's nothing to do with Covid (except that it seems to have delayed implementation in practice) and it's not an EU thing, except that it's their legislation that is implementing it in their members. It derives from the IMO's regulations and the requirement for the electronic interchange of information.

I have bookings into 2023 which they have not asked for such details

As usual with international regulations, implementation is slow and patchy. It seems to be limited to journeys over 20 miles, but of course that's all Manx routes. My last Heysham booking asked for all the information but no checks done. Heysham is a bit exotic though.
0bserver
The new Steam Packet vessel is making great progress. Seems like they don't mess around in Korea! https://www.steam-packet.com/blog/isle-of-man-steam-packet-company-new-vessel-progress/
Whiskey
I hope it’s nearly all cabins. I hate sharing space with the general public.

It is in places like South Korea, Romania and Turkey where the skills are! Long gone are the days of the Clyde shipbuilders!

John Wright
There’s a market in unfinished ferries, where the yard goes tits up. They don’t go for much. There are shipyards that then specialise in remedials. Happened to a Brittany Ferries new build in Germany. Someone May get a bargain, or two! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Honfleur?wprov=sfti1 11 minutes ago, 0bserver said: Yeah those ferries on the Clyde are going to cost a pretty Scottish penny when (if?) they're ever finished. 10 minutes ago, Manxweegie said: Very big if indeed. That is indeed very true, good examples of it occurring in Greece also and elsewhere. Just very very poor of Scottish Gov allowing it to go so out of control! So it fair credit to the Steam Packet as it seems so far (touch wood) that the construction of Manxman seems to be a well run project. Will hold full judgement until that first proper sea trial mind you!
