The swap was for more officer training. It was announced a week ago. Think it’s mentioned on here. Full takeover of both rotations was scheduled for mid October. Haven’t seen any announcement that it’s been put back.

The final timetabled crossing for Ben is the 0215 on 28th October, and this hasn't changed. The timetable has not been a reliable guide in the past, of course, and this is before whatever emerges from today's hiccup. May decide to hold her here a bit longer.

Shit happens.

We got four new vehicles at work last month.  Three of them have been back to the dealer with issues and all are what would be classed a premium brand.

People need to stop being such dicks about a few teething issues.

You don't work at that place between Tesco and the railway station do you? 4 new vehicles a month? Check. Premium brand? Check. 🤠

They’re already all over Facebook!!

I'm not one to complain over teething problems. They happen in any major project and are to be expected. The nonsense they post there is laughable. I do just hope though, that the Packet haven't gone for TOO smart a solution with Manxman, like the Airport tried to do with the radar and it promptly bit them and never worked properly.

Ah, well. Hopefully, the Packet know what they're about slightly better than DoI. Actually, make that a lot better than DoI.

No.

I work for a normal business who replace their fleet 25 percent each year on a four year rotation.

Very few new vehicles these days manage the first six months without a fix of some kind.  Especially bespoke multi million pound ones.

I know. It was just too tempting.

Someone did mention they are trying to break stuff now rather than later as she’s under warranty. So better it happens now I guess.

And you believe that? . ‘Someone’ needs his head wobbled . The old adage don’t believe everything you hear!.

Of course, we are now in the 9th month of problems…

Remember the “compulsion” problems way back in Jan/Feb which resulted in a need to replace the gearbox

Just tried to make our first crossing on the new boat with a cabin. First impressions were all very nice.

Set off 30 minutes late for some reason that the captain never bothered to explain.
Compared to the cabins on the Ben this was prettier but had no blankets, no soap, no biscuits and all the coffee sachets were Decaf. Not sure which of that is by design or just sloppiness.
The “free WiFi” was limited to 100 mb which lasted about two minutes after which you need a voucher. Except they can’t give you one because “the system isn’t working yet”. Pretty pathetic really when it’s been in service for over 7 weeks.
And then about an hour in the main engine broke down which, for some reason, the captain seemed to believe was due to “circumstances beyond their control”. It was finally repaired at about the half way point at the time we should have been docking….. for about 5 minutes before it went down again. At 1.30 pm Captain announced we were returning to Douglas.
When I went to the Info desk and suggested they turned on the WiFi for everyone to use to let people know what’s happening apparently “the system is only set up for 100mb each and no-one knows how to change it !!!”
About an hour later they proudly announced that they had reset the system so everyone could have another 100mb….except they hadn’t and it remained out of use.
Went to the bar for a consolation pint of Guiness and guess what….Guiness was off.
We finally arrived back after a round trip of 8 hours, most of which spent without mobile or WiFi to contact anyone. To add further insult before letting us off the captain decided to spend a further 30 minutes doing “engine trials”!!
Very nice boat. Very poor experience.

We are on the same crossing and with a cabin.

There were no blankets but we did have biscuits, towels, soap and a variety if beverages.  Sounds like you got unlucky.

The staff have all been very good but communication could be improved from the bridge to passengers.

Noted that they did not announce the closure of the eatery on approach to Heysham but did as we came back to Douglas.

The Manxman is definitely a nicer boat than the Ben with better facilities and lounges.

Thanks …must have been a tight call unless they have more access to fix it in home port. Wait for the shit show now with comments

Possibly too risky to take a limping vessel into a narrow channel and challenging harbour

Captain said that they could not enter due to the operating requirements for entering Heysham.

Sounded like they tried to get a tug but none were available.  Had to be helped turn in Douglas Harbour by a tug.
