CallMeCurious
No f**king wonder the IOM gov wanted this outfit at arms length. Between cancelled sailings with 1 sailing left before Christmas Day (https://www.steam-packet.com/LatestSailings), now upcoming strikes and the Arrow as backup for freight only, guess we'll have to find a new national retort for the "There's always a boat in the morning" 😆 Won't be long before Allinson is announcing a budget for modifying Heysham harbour at taxpayers expense to guarentee a vital service. Bit like rebuilding your garage and beefing up the driveway after you bought a new car and realised it didn't fit. Now it turns out it can't handle the potholes in the lane that well either. Not sure how the boat was a bespoke design as it doesn't appear to work any of the existing infrastructure or sea conditions. Consdering it was designed and built in the era of 'climate change panic', i.e. batteries and electric engines, unprecedented weather events is a bit of a lame excuse. I'm not surprised the crew don't want to live on board.... they've probably seen more crap going on behind the scenes than the public have heard about. Basics like potable water for example. I do hope the Treasury have figured out the benefit in kind costs for crew living on board to ensure relevant taxation is collected in a timely fashion.
John Wright
Well, Stena has just signed a 77 year agreement to use Heysham for its Belfast freight service. Ordered 2 new freight ferries. They and Sea Truck will be pressurising Peel Ports to dredge more frequently ( and the new ferries will be at least as long as MX )

woolley
A lot of 50mph 60mph gales over the next few days. Ben didn't sail in those conditions.
Frances
It would be interesting to see a comparison of this years cancellations + short notice retimings as compared with say the last 5 years of similar winter period sailings with the Ben - yes there were cancellations but nothing as frequent as in last 10 weeks with Manxman Edited December 19, 2023 by Frances

The same period next year would give a more informative comparison.
Kopek
.... and if it doesn't come up to scratch ever, what then??? Another white Elephant for us? Of course, we'll fire all those involved in the commissioning but we're still left with a boat not quite up to scratch! I know, Woolley that you are a bit of an apologist for the SP and that's probably good to have an alternative view because the SP are hardly overloading us with info, are they? The little pilot boat won't be going out in severe gales to meet the Maxnman, which will undoubtedly lead to cancellations.
